Chan won the silver medal with the team in the team event at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He took figure skating lessons because he wanted to learn how to skate in order to play hockey, but then liked figure skating right away. He practiced many other sports including tennis, skiing, swimming and taekwondo. Osborne Colson coached Chan for many years up until his death in July 2006 at age 90. Chan admires four-time World Champion Kurt Browning for his personality and admires World Champion Todd Eldredge for his work ethics. Chan’s parents are immigrants from China. His mother immigrated from Hong Kong to Canada in her late 20s, his father came as a young boy to Canada. Chan’s father played ping pong and coached a ping pong team in Quebec. Chan returns to competition after taking a break in the 2014\/15 season.
